Doctors, in the last ensuing decades, have had just one simple and easy method of dealing with problems concerning menopause – prescribing estrogen capsules. However, scientific research suddenly revealed that consumption of estrogen capsules led to higher risks of fatal diseases such as breast cancer and stroke 1. This news deeply distressed the menopausal women as well as the doctors; they were at a loss and failed to devise a method of dealing with the unbearable condition of menopause.
Menopause is a serious, complicated and a multifaceted condition and this issue is often not considered. When treating menopause symptoms many factors need to be taken care of – achieving the proper hormonal content in the body as well as preventing the various diseases that can affect the woman at this time. When a woman gets her menopause she is likely to contract diseases like cardiac disorders, osteoporosis as well as some cancers because menopause leads to various alterations in the body system such as alterations in the heart, psychological changes; weakness of bones as well as cell explosion occur too.
Menopausal women are most prone to acquiring serious terminal diseases such as cancers and cardiac diseases. As opposed to the doctors’ belief that estrogen drugs decreased the chances of heart diseases, the drugs actually enhance the chances of suffering from cardiac problems after menopause. However scientists working on this problem have found natural methods of preventing menopausal women from contracting the fatal diseases.
The pomegranate fruit has, for a long time, been esteemed for its traits that promote good health. Now the pomegranate fruit has gained importance as one containing significant compounds that prevent heart disorders as well as cancer. These organic compounds contain special antioxidants that can cure cardiac problems. In Israel, a research was carried out by giving pomegranate juice to patients suffering from atherosclerosis and the effect it had on their cardiac health was noted. In spite of observing the patients for three years, a perceptible difference was seen just after a year. A 30% enhancement in atherosclerosis as judged from the blood flow rate in the carotid artery was observed in patients who consumed the juice. On the other hand, the conditions of the patients who did not take the juice inched closer to fatality by 9%. In all the patients who took the juice, the systolic blood pressure came down by 9% and the complete serum antioxidant content rose by 130%.
These sudden changes were noticed just after a year of consuming pomegranate juice; however, in the subsequent years while pomegranate juice consumption was continued though no such conspicuous change was noticed, there was a consistent drop in the low -density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation. Research in the modern times have revealed that pomegranate juice is effective in preventing hear diseases. It averts LDL peroxidation and also prevents the formation of cholesterol by macrophages. Punicalagin, the chief antioxidant polyphenol component found in pomegranate juice is its unique trait- the compound has no other source. The component in berries which makes them a store of good health, ellagic acid, is also present in pomegranate. A new research examining the capacities of the different constituents of pomegranate fruit to prevent cancer and also stifle the free radicals has discovered that the compounds in pomegranate work in tandem and together and in several methods so as to avoid cancer.
Pomegranate is especially effective in case of breast cancer, so research says. Breast cancer is one of the most ordinary diseases that affect women after they have their menopause.17-beta-estradiol which is actually the most potent hormone in the woman’s body is largely responsible for the formation as well as the expansion of breast cancer. Most types of breast cancers are dependent on hormones in their initial levels. Thus menopause and pomegranates are closely related- menopausal women should drink pomegranate juice to remain fit and fine
‘The pill’ or combined oral contraceptive pill, chemically the Marvelon tablets are a form of hormonal contraception. The two primary constituents of this tablet are ethinylestradiol and desogestrel. These two components are actually artificially formed alternatives for the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone. Ethinylestradiol (the spelling was formerly ethinyloestradiol in the UK) is an artificial man made alternative for estrogen where as the chemical used for progesterone is desogestrel, a chemical that is a thrice improved form of the original hormone.
Marvelon, a mixed contraceptive pill, operates by working above the standard menstrual cycle. The content of the sex hormones in a woman’s body alter every month according to her menstrual cycle. The hormones are responsible for ovulation i.e. the egg is discharged from the ovaries. They also form the lining in the womb in case a pregnancy occurs. Once the cycle is completed and if pregnancy has taken place, the hormone content drops and the lining disintegrates. This results in period every month.
Once the pill is taken on a regular basis, the chemicals in the pill operate by letting your body believe that the process of ovulation has already taken place. Thus the maturation of an egg and its subsequent discharge from the ovaries do not occur every moth.
The breadth of the mucus that is secreted at the collar of the womb is also enhanced by the synthetic hormones. Consequently, it gets harder for a sperm to swim from the vagina to the womb and fertilize an egg. They are also instrumental in altering certain characteristics of the womb (the layer called endometrium) such that, in all probability, a fertilized egg cannot attach itself to the wall.
The pill, Marvelon, is monophasic i.e. each tablet is of the same composition and has the same amount of artificial hormones in it. It is prescribed to take a pill each day for 21 days and then go for a 7 -day interim period when you do not take any pills. Within this interim period, the hormone content in the body falls and this leads to withdrawal bleed which is quite like your monthly period. However, you need to begin your next course for 21 days as soon as the interim period is over- does not matter if your bleeding has not stopped.
The pack of tablets contain a calendar to ease your calculations. You need not worry about getting pregnant in the week in which you will not be taking the pills. However this depends on certain factors like your dosage has been proper and regular, your next batch of pill is on schedule and also that you have not contracted any other illness such as diarrhea or have had to take medicines for some other reason.
Consumption of the pill leads to smoother and timely monthly period and also period that is easier to endure. Thus it is sometimes recommended for women who suffer from heavy flow as well as excruciatingly painful menstrual cycle. Marvelon 28 and menopause are thus related- easier and more comfortable period days.

Menstrual bleeding enhances with age. Several women across the world suffer from heavy menstrual flow. Menstrual bleeding that is timely but also heavy of over 80ml/cycle is termed as menorrhagia or perimenoipause. Menorrhagia is quite an ordinary problem. Perimenopausal women suffering from erratic period timings as well as heavy flow can opt for the various medical therapies available. Intrauterine levonorgestrel is the most effectual one. Oral progestogens, the blended oral contraceptive pill, danazol, tranexamic acid, mefenamic acid, and gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) alternatives are the other few methods that can be made use of. Menstrual cycle changes with the body system of each woman. Menstrual flow, generally, takes place once in every 21 to 35 days; it occurs for 4-5 days and blood lost is 30-40 milliliters( roughly about 2-3 tablespoons). No matter what the characteristic of your period is – easy, smooth and carefree or painful, heavy flow and depressing- it can still be counted as standard and general. Menorrhagia is the condition of blood loss measuring 80 milliliters or more during period.
Premenopausal women often suffer from heavy flow when they are menstruating. This however does not qualify as menorrhagia which is defined as heavy blood loss. However, necessary treatments are available.
Anyone at any point in her reproductive phase can experience heavy flow. Usually women who have just begun their menstruation cycle (menarche) and do not undergo ovulation on a regular basis yet are the ones who tend to suffer from menorrhagia. This occurs 12-18 months after their first period. Women reaching the menopausal age acquire menorrhagia as the hormone levels fluctuate during this time. If a bleeding disorder runs in the family, menorrhagia can affect effectively. Women at any stage can also suffer from period that continues over the month or lasts still longer. However, women over 40 years of age or reaching the menopausal age are more likely to go through this situation. This abnormal bleeding is sometimes caused as an outcome of one ovulation that has not taken place. Sometimes it occurs due to some growth or anatomical disorder like a fibroid, a polyp, an extended development on the uterine lining or hyperplasia ore sometimes uterine cancer or maybe a cancer of the endometrium.
When a patient is over 40 years old, the normal course of action undertaken to treat the excessive bleeding is to diagnose the cause and then apply medicines accordingly. Hormonal therapy should not be used to treat any kind of bleeding disorder till it is made sure that the person is not suffering from cancer of the endometrium.
